News from the Nest

This Friday and Saturday we will be set up at the Sweet T Vintage Market and Southern Junk Show. You can't miss us, we will be right in front. Bird's Nest will be on the front porch, right inside the front door, and we will also have our 1969 VINTAGE CAMPER parked out front. This is our first show with our newly renovated show camper. We are working day and night to finish up the remodel. Stop by and check it out!

Cabbage is a vegetable that was grown in every pioneer woman's garden. The cabbages were planted in spring, grew all summer long, and were harvested in the Fall when the temperature began to drop. According to tradition, a waning moon was necessary to ensure that the kraut would not swell excessively during fermentation. After harvesting, the cabbages would be piled in the basement. It took two bushels of cabbage to make a ten-gallon crock of kraut. The cabbage would be stripped of the outer, soiled leaves, then quartered, with the center core removed.    We have exciting news!! We have purchased the old Heritage Building in Downtown Bryan and are working hard renovating and adding our own flair to this 130'year-old building. We plan on opening on First Friday, June 5th! We are excited to have our very own store and will be adding fun vintage-inspired products. We are also packing in the antiques. We will continue to specialize in primitive, shabby, and vintage items. Our next spring show is the Chappell Hill Bluebonnet Festival! This is a fun outdoor show. The Festival boasts more than 250 juried exhibitors , delicious country-style food, live entertainment and music, and tours of the historic community. A special Children’s Activity Corner provides pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, barrel train and more.  The Bluebonnet Festival was declared the "Official Bluebonnet Festival of Texas" by the Texas Legislature and was voted #7 as "Most Popular Festival in Texas" by Texas Highways magazine.
