Building on this success, Howard then developed the purple, violet-scented gum tablets as a complementary product, establishing the C. Howard Company to market and distribute his unique confectionery creations.
Charles Howard sought to create "unique and different flavored candy" during the Great Depression. His first success was the violet-flavored mints, which he produced in a small loft in New York City and sold from a pushcart on Manhattan streets. After the mints became popular, Howard decided to develop another distinctive product, leading to the creation of the purple, violet-scented gum tablets known as "Choward's Scented Gum".
